ITAC Vows Non-Cooperation with Groups Undermining Hmar Identity

The consultation saw the participation of leaders from various civil society organizations (CSOs), including the Hmar Inpui, village authorities, and representatives from the jurisdictional SoO group. The gathering was marked by a shared spirit of resilience and determination to uphold tribal interests.

Among the key resolutions reiterated was the decision not to cooperate with any platform, organization, or forum that seeks to exclude or undermine the Hmar nomenclature. The leaders asserted that such exclusionary efforts will be met with firm resistance and clarified that the tribal communities of Pherzawl and Jiribam will not be held responsible for any consequences arising from actions opposing their collective will.

The consultation also emphasized the longstanding aspiration for the creation of a Hmar homeland and self-rule in Hmar-majority areas, including Pherzawl and Jiribam, a demand rooted in constitutional provisions dating back to 1953. Any attempt to dilute or dismiss these aspirations was categorically rejected.
