Moreh, May 21, 2025, Virthli (ONP): In a significant boost to local infrastructure, Minister Letpao Haokip has successfully overseen the blacktopping of key locality roads and streets in Moreh town, fulfilling a long-standing commitment to residents. Despite the challenges posed by ongoing communal tensions in the state, the Minister remained steadfast in delivering critical development works.
The blacktopping initiative covers major roads across several localities, including:
* Hospital approach road via Ima Kumdong Lairembi Haraobung
* Turel Wangma road
* Lhangkichoi Veng to ICP bypass route
* Muslim Nagar
* Ngamkhai Veng to KCC bypass
* Home Guard Veng near KCC road to Guite Veng road
In addition, rigid pavements were constructed along:
* IMB Gate No. 2 galli road
* Moreh Police Station to IMB Gate No. 2
* IMB Gate No. 2 to Tamil Mandir road
Further works are also underway in Nepali Basti and New Moreh.
It may be recalled that similar road development works had earlier begun in 2023 but were interrupted by the outbreak of ethnic clashes. With the arrival of the monsoon season and deteriorating road conditions, the Minister recently resumed the halted projects, ensuring near-total road coverage across Moreh’s localities.
Local bodies including the Manipuri Muslim Council Moreh (MMCM), New Moreh Administrative Committee, Munnom Veng Administrative Committee, and Chavangphai Administrative Committee have expressed heartfelt appreciation for Minister Haokip’s dedication to public welfare.
Since his election as the BJP MLA from Tengnoupal Assembly Constituency in 2021–2022, Haokip has prioritized revitalizing Moreh, a town long affected by neglect. Despite financial and logistical hurdles, he has consistently pushed forward infrastructure projects, even expressing a willingness to fund works from personal resources if required.

With blacktopping work now nearly complete across the town, Moreh is witnessing renewed hope and improved connectivity, marking a new chapter in its development journey.
