Shillong, May 15, 2025, Virthli (ONP): In a momentous ceremony held at Mawkhar, Shillong, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma laid the foundation stone for the Indigenous Cultural Centre of Seng Khasi Kmie. The event was hailed as a historic step in the preservation and promotion of Khasi identity and cultural heritage.
Addressing the gathering, Sangma expressed his deep respect for Seng Khasi, a spiritual and cultural movement that has stood as the custodian of Khasi traditions for 125 years. "Seng Khasi has been the guardian and guiding force of the Khasi identity - upholding the faith, traditions, and cultural essence of our people," he said in a statement on social media.
The upcoming centre is envisioned as a hub for cultural preservation, education, and community engagement. It will not only reinforce the efforts of Seng Khasi in safeguarding indigenous language, beliefs, and customs but also provide an immersive space for visitors to learn about and celebrate the richness of Khasi culture.
“This is more than just a building,” Sangma remarked. “It is a living legacy, ensuring that future generations grow up rooted in the values, wisdom, and majestic heritage of our ancestors.”
