Aizawl, May 24, 2025, Virthli (ONP) Mizoram Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma held a significant meeting with Union Home Minister Pu Amit Shah in New Delhi yesterday, where a wide range of developmental and security issues concerning the state were discussed.
During the meeting, Union Home Minister Pu Amit Shah expressed his appreciation for Mizoram, stating, “Mizoram is one of the most peaceful states in India, and that is highly commendable. I recognize the efforts taken to ensure peace and security in the region.” In this context, he acknowledged the success of the Mizoram government’s flagship initiative Bana Kaih (Handholding Scheme) under the Peace Dividend, aimed at strengthening stability and progress.
The Union Home Minister further informed that the Government of India, through the Ministry of Home Affairs, will release Rs. 523.04 lakh to the Mizoram Government for the repurposing of an old building vacated by the Assam Rifles. He also touched on the development of Lengpui Airport under the Airports Authority of India (AAI), emphasizing the Centre’s commitment to modernizing the facility.
The meeting also covered the upcoming appointment of Pu David Lalrinsanga, IPS, as the next Director General of Police (DGP) of Mizoram, and deliberations were held on the procedures involved.
Additionally, both leaders discussed the status of The Mizoram Maintenance of Household Registers Bill, 2019, passed by the Mizoram Legislative Assembly during the MNF Government’s tenure, which is still under consideration by the President of India. The Union Home Minister assured that the matter is being reviewed for resolution.
On the matter of border security and refugee management, Pu Amit Shah acknowledged the launch of a dedicated online portal created by the Mizoram Government for documentation of refugees from Myanmar, noting its importance and appreciating the initiative.

Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma conveyed his gratitude for the support and highlighted his administration’s proposal for the creation of a Mizo Territorial Army Battalion, underscoring its potential to provide meaningful employment for Mizo youth while enhancing national security. He emphasized the need for coordination with the Director of the Intelligence Bureau for further action.
