Guwahati, May 12, 2025, Virthli (ONP): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday performed the Bhoomi Poojan ceremony for two upcoming Marriott International properties in Guwahati, signaling a major leap forward in the state’s hospitality and tourism infrastructure.
The two hotel projects, worth a combined investment of ₹500 crore, were among the key agreements inked during the Advantage Assam 2.0 Global Investors’ Summit. Remarkably, construction work has commenced within just three months of signing the MoUs—highlighting what the Chief Minister referred to as “the speed of a new Assam.”
Taking to social media, Sarma expressed optimism about Assam’s emergence as a destination for global hospitality giants. “Guwahati gets a leg up on attracting global hospitality chains!” he tweeted. “With 11 five-star hotels in the pipeline, Guwahati is becoming a hub for global hospitality chains who are seizing the opportunity to cater to the huge demand in the region.”
The Advantage Assam 2.0 summit, held earlier this year, attracted substantial investment proposals aimed at transforming the state's economic and infrastructural landscape. The hospitality sector has been a major focus, with the government aggressively promoting Assam as a premium tourist and business destination.

The Chief Minister’s announcement comes at a time when the city is witnessing rapid urban development and a growing influx of business travelers and tourists. The upcoming Marriott hotels are expected to boost employment opportunities and enhance Guwahati’s capacity to host high-end events and international guests.
With more luxury hospitality projects on the horizon, Assam is positioning itself as the Northeast’s premier gateway for global business and tourism.
