Agartala, May 12, 2025, Virthli (ONP): The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has unveiled a strategic roadmap aimed at reclaiming its political strongholds in Tripura and West Bengal. This announcement comes amid sharp criticism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its governance in Tripura.
CPI(M) General Secretary M.A. Baby, addressing the media at the party's state headquarters in Agartala, accused the BJP-led government in Tripura of alienating itself from the populace and fostering a climate of fear. He stated, "The government is unable to stand before the people because it has isolated itself from them. To cover up its failures, the BJP is enforcing fear across the state."
Highlighting the party's commitment to rejuvenating its base, Baby emphasized that reclaiming lost bastions in Tripura and Bengal is a top priority. He noted that a strategic plan was formulated during the recent state conference and the 24th party congress to rebuild the party’s presence in these states.
Critiquing the current administration, Baby alleged that Tripura is experiencing undemocratic practices and rising unemployment, leading to mass migration. He affirmed CPI(M)'s dedication to addressing these pressing issues and uniting secular and democratic forces to counter the BJP's influence.
The CPI(M) also expressed concerns over India's foreign policy, particularly questioning the involvement of the United States in recent India-Pakistan ceasefire talks. Baby remarked, "Why does India need a third party like the United States to mediate with Pakistan? This undermines our sovereignty."
Tripura state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury echoed these sentiments, warning that the BJP's current trajectory undermines democratic values. He highlighted growing unrest in Tripura over issues like water shortages, power supply, and the education system, stating, "People are out on the streets daily. MGNREGA workers are locking up block offices after being denied wages."
The CPI(M)'s renewed focus on Tripura and Bengal signifies its intent to revitalize its political influence and address the challenges faced by the populace under the current administration.
