Tuithaphai, May 15, 2025, Virthli (ONP): According to the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), a total of 66 cases of Scrub Typhus have been detected between January 1 and April 30, 2025, out of 127 tests conducted in Churachandpur. One death, involving a 52-year-old male, has also been reported.
Monthly data shows:
• In January, 28 people were tested, with 3 testing positive.
• In February, 49 tests were conducted, and 18 were positive.
• In March, 50 people were tested, with 23 positive cases.
• In April, out of 51 tests, 22 cases were detected as positive.
Scrub Typhus was first detected in Churachandpur district in 2019, with 9 cases reported that year. In 2020, no cases were recorded. The following years saw fluctuations:
• 2021: 12 cases, 1 death
• 2022: 26 cases, 1 death
• 2023: 11 cases, 3 deaths
• 2024: 88 cases reported
From 2019 to 2025, Scrub Typhus has claimed six lives in the district. To prevent infection, health officials advise people to avoid dense vegetation and wear protective clothing when venturing into forested or overgrown areas. The Manipur Health Department has also supplied testing kits since the 2023 outbreak, enabling IDSP to expand testing. Private clinics are also now offering testing for Scrub Typhus.
