Chandel, May 14, 2025,Virthli (ONP): In a major counter-insurgency operation, the Indian Army’s Assam Rifles unit under Spear Corps neutralized ten armed militants near New Samtal village in Khengjoy Tehsil of Manipur’s Chandel district, close to the Indo-Myanmar border.
According to a statement from the Eastern Command of the Indian Army, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of armed cadres in the region. As troops moved in on May 14, they came under fire from the suspected militants. The soldiers immediately responded with a strategic redeployment and retaliated in what the Army described as a “calibrated and measured manner.”
The intense firefight resulted in the elimination of ten cadres. Security forces also recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition from the site. The identity of the deceased militants and their affiliations are yet to be confirmed.
