Champions FAST taking on heavyweights Tuithaphai SC

CCPur, May 11, 2019: For what is believed to be a mouth-watering clash of highest quality, reigning champions Friendship Athletics Sporting Team (FAST) of Rengkai will be having an acid test in a bid to defend their title when they welcome Tuithaphai SC in today's first semi-final clash of the ongoing 16th Hmar Martyrs' trophy 2019 at Saikot playground, Churachandpur.
In today's blockbuster semi-final fixture, FAST will be aiming to reach the final for a record 5 times in seven years while after long suffering of pre-mature elimination despite fielding quality squad with Tuiring FC, manager of Tuithaphai SC Mami Leivon Kom will be desperate to see her new side reach the final.
Defending champions FAST made a slow start to the campaign as they were held to a 1-1 draw by debutants Kim Commissariat FC in the tournament's opener but they came back strongly in the knock-out round as they thrashed Zeals SC 6-0 and a 2-0 victory over FC Zotal in the quarter-finals has added new weight and belief that they are in fine form to defend their title.
Meanwhile, Tuithaphai SC opened their campaign with a goalless draw with SYMROPIA FC and oversaw Ahsisomleng FC 2-0 to reach the knock-out stage. In the knock-out round, they thrashed Ahsisomleng SC 4-0 and edged past Kapthuom Memorial Team 2-1 in the quarter-finals.
Heading into today's potential volatile clash, both sides are expected to have a full-strength squad but the fact a high-profile exhibition match taking place at Lamka Public Ground between Churachandpur District Team and I-League / ISL team has cast some doubt whether the two sides will be able to field their strongest line-ups.
In another term, today's fixture could be termed as a battle of youth and experience with majority of FAST squad blended with vastly experienced players who are still at their prime while majority of the squad of Tuithaphai SC is filled with highly promising youth who are ready to blossom at the peak of their career but the presence of experience stars at their disposal in midfield technician Md. Imran Khan, experienced goalkeeper Mong Hmangte and Jangneithang Khongsai, who has the most goals for a defender scoring 3 goals to date, will prove crucial in their bid to reach a dream final.
