The Joint Consultative Meeting of tribal leaders and church leaders from across Manipur convened by the Joint Action Committee Against Anti-Tribal Bills (JAC) today at YPA Hall, Hiangtam Lamka, after much deliberation on the way forward for the Tribal Movement made the following resolutions:
1. That, to mark the 100th day of agitation against the act of injustice meted out to the tribal community and insensitivity of the Manipur Government towards the mortal remains of the nine Tribal Martyrs, and for the decades of prejudice and indifference of the Manipur Government towards the plight of the tribal people. a Mass Prayer will be held at the Lamka Public Ground on 9th December, 2015 as a time to thank the Almighty for having led us thus far, and also as a time to humble ourselves while seeking the Lord's forgiveness for any misdeeds, and cry out for His help and heal our land.
2 That, an appeal should also be made to our tribal brothers and sisters across India and the World to organize similar mass prayers wherever they are to show their support for the Tribal Movement.
3 That, as a mark of protest against the 100 days of injustice meted out to the tribal people and to show our solidarity and respect for the supreme sacrifices made by our nine Tribal Martyrs, an appeal should be made to all tribals to light candles outside their respective homes between 6:00PM and 7:00PM on the night of 9" December. 2015.
4 That, the JAC deeply appreciates the ongoing untiring efforts made by the Manipur Tribals' Forum Delhi and highly values their contribution to the Tribal Movement for our land and rights.
5 That, as already agreed in principle in a previous Joint Consultative Meeting, the JAC should set up a Road Construction Sub-Committee and begin the construction/repairing of important roads linking Churachandpur District with neighbouring states.
6 That, the JAC along with the innpis/tribe leaders and other CSOs shall organize awareness campaigns across the Hill Districts of Manipur on the issue of tribal land and their rights.
7. That, the innpis/tribe councils shall get in touch with the sitting Member of Parliament (Outer Manipur). Pu Thangso Baite and advice him to speak out during this winter session of the Parliament in regards to the three anti-tribal bills (viz, the Protection of Manipur People Bill, 2015: the Manipur Land Revenue & Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2015: and the Manipur Shops & Establishment (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015) and its related issues.
8 That, in case the JAC finds it necessary to initiate any form of agitation in the coming days, the tribe leaders are requested to support the actions of the JAC .
9 That, the JAC will send appreciation note to all the Hon'ble Members of Parliament who have voiced our issue in the floor of the Parliament on different occasions till the session is adjourned.
10 That, the Joint Consultative Meeting also resolved to appeal the Ministry of Home Affairs to translate its Press Release on the 9th of November, 2015 into actions at the earliest. (Transcript by Virthli)
