Imphal, May 10 2015 : A rift within the State Congress Legislature Party (CLP) has come to the fore on Sunday over the party's inability to put up adequate number of candidates in the ensuing Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls scheduled on June 1 .
A well-placed source in the State Congress said a group of party legislators have decided to prevail upon Chief Minister O Ibobi and the Congress high command to remove Health & Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing and Rural Development & Panchayati Raj Minister Francis Ngajokpa from the ministerial posts.
The two ministers had been playing crucial roles in fielding Congress candidates from Churachandpur and Senapati districts respectively for the coming ADC polls.
The source said the INC has fielded its candidates in only four seats in Senapati ADC which has 24 seats while Francis Ngajokpa has been unable to put up even a single candidate in his constituency.
Seven INC candidates have been fielded in Churachandpur ADC.
Meanwhile, four INC candidates in Chandel ADC are expected to be declared elected unopposed on Monday.
The six ADC in the politically important five hill districts have a total of 144 seats.
