Aizawl, Aug 28, 2011(TNN): At a time the Union minister of state (home) M Ramachandran said in the Lok Sabha that there were 79 insurgent groups in the northeast, including three groups in Mizoram, home minister of the state R Lalzirliana claimed that there were no insurgent groups in Mizoram.

Describing Ramachandran's statement in the Parliament as unfortunate, Lalzirliana, while addressing a political session in the Congress Bhavan in Aizawl, said there were no militant groups in the state.

While the Hmar People's Convention (Democrats) could be regarded as a militant group, the outfit is yet to be outlawed by the government, he said.

The HPC (D) cadres are like 'revolting children' who are seeking something from the parents (the government) and the government does not regard them as insurgents, he said.

Regarding the stalled peace process between the state government and the HPC(D), the minister said a representative from the United States and from New Delhi were suggested by the HPC (D) for inclusion in the delegation. However, the proposal was not accepted by the government.

"The problem is not between the government and the Hmars and we did not allow people from outside to interfere in the internal problems of the state," he said.

He added that the Union home ministry informed the state chief minister, Lal Thanhawla, that the Centre has been holding talks with the Hmar outfit and that the state government should not engage in a separate negotiations.
