TISS : M.A., M.Sc, MHA, MPH Programme Admission 2013-15

Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) announces Admission to the 2013-15 batch for the following Full-Time (Regular) Post-Graduate Degree Programmes (M.A., M. Sc., M.H.A., M.P.H.) Offered from Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses

Reservation:

As per Government of India norms, Mumbai, Tuljapur and Guwahati Campuses provide 15%, 7.5% and 27% reservation to Scheduled Caste, Schedule Tribe and Other Backward Classes (non-creamy layer) for each of the programmes. In addition, Persons With Disabilities (PWD) are eligible to 3% of the supernumerary seats.

As per agreement with Ministry of Development of North-East Region, Government of India, Guwahati Campus allots 66% of the seats to candidates from eight North Eastern States. And the 34% of the seats are for candidates from other parts of the country. Persons With Disabilities (PWD) are eligible to 3% of the supernumerary seats.

Campus Preference:

TISS offers 39 Master's Degree programmes from its Mumbai, Tuljapur, Guwahati and Hyderabad campuses for the 2013-2015 batch. Candidates can apply for a minimum of one and a maximum of five programmes across the four tiss campuses. However, they can opt for only a maximum of three programmes at tiss mumbai.

In case the candidate is selected for more than one programme after National Common Entrance Test, Pre-Interview Test and Personal Interview, admission will be offered to the programme higher in the order of preference.

Application Submission:

ONLINE application is available along with this announcement. Complete ONLINE application form, pay the application fee (depending on number of programmes applied) and submit it.

Candidates having trouble completing ONLINE application form or lack access to internet services can write to Mumbai campus for printed application form. Complete the application form and submit before last date of submission.

Last date for filling the form online: 10th November 2012.

Written Test:

Written test in ONLINE format will be held on 13th January 2013 in more than 25 centres in all parts of the country. The ONLINE test is of Multiple choice objective type and thus even those with rudimentary knowledge of working with computers or cell phones can do the test. In case any candidate desires to do the test on paper, this must be indicated in the application form.

Candidates with visual impairment will be given an option to have a Reader/Writer and a paper-pen test be conducted at designated centres, which will be announced closer to the test dates.

Orientation to admission process:

Candidates belonging to SC, ST, OBC, PWD and minority communities are invited to attend three day orientation proramme 14-16th December 2012 in different regions of the country. Candidates from these categories must indicate the place they would like to attend the orientation programme, and an invitation letter from the Office of Dean, Social Protection will reach them 2 weeks prior to the date of orientation programme.

Common Admission Test (CAT) 2012

The Indian Institutes of Management will conduct Common Admission Test (CAT) 2012 during a 12-day testing window between 11th October, 2012 to 06th November. On behalf of Indian Institutes of Management, CAT 2012 will be coordinated by Indian  Institute of Management Kozhikode. The test comprises two sections that are separately timed. Each of the  sections will be 1 hour and 10 minutes (i.e. 70 minutes). There will be 30 questions in each section. The sections are (a) Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation (b) Verbal
Ability & Logical Reasoning. Once a section ends, aspirants can no longer go back to it. Aspirants will be presented with the section on Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation first, followed by Verbal Ability & Logical Reasoning. Some important dates are given in
the following Table. CAT 2012 will be conducted by IIMs as a pre-requisite for admission to various management programmes of IIMs.These programmes are:

CAT Eligibility

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Differently Abled (DA) (It may also referred to as Persons with Disability (PWD) category)], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.  The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case the candidates are awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where they have obtained the bachelor’s degree. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100.  Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply.  If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2013 from the Principal/Registrar of his/her College/Institute (issued on or before June 30, 2013) stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate.  IIMs may verify eligibility at various stages of the selection process, the details of which are provided at the website www.catiim.in. Applicants should note that the mere fulfillment of minimum eligibility criteria will not ensure consideration for shortlisting by IIMs.

Prospective candidates must maintain a valid and unique email account and a phone number throughout the selection process.

MBA (Master of Business Administration)

Eligibility Criteria: A bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks in the aggregate (45% marks in case of SC/ST)

Those appearing in the final examination and expecting their result by 15th July, 2012 may also apply

Eligible candidates need to appear any of the MAT Tests (May/September/December-2011 and February-2012)

B.Tech: Information Technology (IT), Electronics Communication Engineering (ECE), Lateral Entry to 3rd Semester

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates who has passed/appeared/appearing in the higher secondary (10+2) examination or its equivalent in Science Stream from any recognized board having secured a minimum of 50% marks (in aggregate) in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics (relaxable by 5% for SC/ST candidates)

B.A.-LL.B (Hons)

Eligibility Criteria: Candidates who have passed/appeared are appearing the Higher Secondary Examination (10+2) or its equivalent (such as 11+1) (A level in Senior School Leaving Certificate Course) from a recognized university of India or outside or from a Senior Secondary Board or equivalent examination in any stream securing an aggregate of not less than 50% of the marks, relaxable by 5% for SC/ST shall be eligible to seek admission to the programme

Age: The maximum age for seeking admission into the course is limited to 20 (twenty) years in case of general category of applicant and to 22 (twenty two) years in case of applicant from SC/ST/OBC as on 01st August, 2012

The prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has announced its admission process for the 2012-13 academic session. It is for the first time that the varsity has introduced an online application process and the sale and submission of application forms, both online and offline will start from February 6, 2012.

Entrance examinations will be conducted by the University for admission to various programmes, including Combined Biotechnology Entrance Examination on behalf of participating universities in 52 cities across India and in Kathmandu on May 22, 23, 24 and 25.

The online application process will starts from 10am on February 6 and candidates can apply online by logging on to JNU website www.jnu.ac.in or www.jnuonline.in. The website also offers the details of application and entrance examination fee and hence will remain open from 10:00 AM (IST) on 6th February, 2012 till 5:00 PM (IST) on 21st March, 2012. Students also have the facility to make online payment, she added.

Candidates without internet access can obtain a set of application form and prospectus through post by sending a crossed Bank Draft for Rs.300/- drawn in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru University payable at New Delhi. ELIGIBILITY AND QUALIFICATIONS TO APPEAR IN THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATION GENERAL:

A candidate seeking admission to the MBBS course is eligible to take the entrance examination if he/she fulfills the following criteria:

  • A candidate should be a citizen of India or be a subject of Nepal or Bhutan or a person of Indian origin migrated fro'm Pakistan or any other foreign country with the intention of permanently settling in India.

  • Must be unmarried. Marrying during the course is not permitted.

  • Should be medically fit as per prescribed standards by the Govt. of India, Ministry of Defence

  • Must have attained the age of 17yrs on 31st Dec of the year of application, but must not have attained the age of 22 years on that date(Not more than 24 years in case of candidates who have passed or are appearing in final B Sc examinations).


Academic Qualifications:

Candidate must have passed all the subjects opted for in the first attempt of the qualifying examinations as a regular candidate with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken simultaneously and securing not less than 60% of the aggregate marks in these 3 science subjects taken together and not less than 50% marks in English and 50% marks in each of the science subjects. They must have also passed an examination in Mathematics of the 10th standard.

Number of Seats:

A total of 130 students (105 boys & 25 girls) will be admitted.

Syllabus For the Examination:

The general standard of the entrance examination will be that of 11th and 12th class under the 10+2 scheme/pre-medical/intermediate science or an equivalent examination of the State Education Board/Indian University

Admission Procedure:

The course commences in the month of August. Advertisements for recruitment appear in the leading news papers of the country in the month of December every year, for MBBS course. Candidates are required to submit their application forms in the prescribed format, along with other necessary documents mentioned therein.

The AFMC is affiliated to Maharashtra University of Health Science, Nashik and is recognised by the Medical Council of India.

Admission to MBBS course is based on written examination. The written examination is held on 1st Sunday of May. Successful candidates are called for interview in June for the courses starting in July. Admission is subject to medical fitness.

PROSPECTUS AVAILABILITY:

Prospectus is available on sale at all Major City GPOs/ HPO's/ Pos fro'm the date of advertisement for approximately one month. The present cost of the prospectus is Rs. 250/-.

Course Duration:

The duration of MBBS course is four and a half year followed by internship of one year.

Method of Selection:

  • Candidates who are found provisionally eligible as per the criteria of eligibility, will be called at one of the examination centres to appear in the competitive examination on 1st Sunday of May. Issue of admit cards. however does not necessarily mean acceptance of eligibility which will be further scrutinized at subsequent stages of selection.

  • The written examination centre will be allotted to candidates depending upon the administrative arrangements for the examination and availability of adequate seating capacity.

  • The Roll Number of the candidates who qualify for interview based on the above written examination will be published in the leading newspapers. The college/DGAFMS take no responsibility for any error or omission in the roll numbers published in the newspapers.


Interview of Candidate:

  • On the basis of their performance in the written examination selected candidates in order of roll numbers will be called for an interview to be held in the month of June at AFMC, PUNE.

  • The exact date of the above interview will be intimidated to the selected candidates. Request for change of date of interview will NOT be entertained. The candidates will be required to produce originals of all certificates/mark sheets at the time of interview. All candidates will produce result or proof of having appeared in the qualifying examination held, at the time of interview (if the result of such examination has not been declared).

  • On the basis of the above test and interview two merit lists, one for boys and one for girls, will be drawn up and admissions will be offered only to candidates in accordance with their merit position. Individual letters of admission will be sent only to selected candidates who would be required to join AFMC. The remaining candidates will be on waiting list. The result will be published by the DGAFMS in the newspapers.


SC/ST Candidates:

  • Ten seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates provided :

  • The SC/ST candidates must qualify in the written examination and come within the zone to be called up for interview.

  • They must come within the first 500 in the final combined merit list of boys and girls.


MEDICAL STANDARDS:

  • The candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free fro'm any disability likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duty in the Armed Forces.

  • Medical examination will be done by a Board of Officers at AFMC Pune, prior to admission to the College. Medical Board will categorize as Fit and Unfit, in accordance with the prescribed standards. Candidates declared as UNFIT are entitled to appeal on payment of a fee of Rs. 40/-. The procedure will be intimated to the concerned candidates by the President of the Medical Board.

HOSTEL FACILITY: The college is fully residential and residence in the hostel is compulsory for all students with service liability. Separate boys and girls hostels are located in the college campus. (i) Candidates securing 55% marks or above or equivalent grade in Master Degree Examination of a recognized University are only eligible to apply for admission to One semester Integrated Pre Ph.D. Course work for registration to M.Phil/Ph.D. programme of the University. Relaxation of marks for SC/ST categories shall be as per Govt. of India rules (ii) Candidates with M.Phil Degree fro'm any recognized University with explicit proof of qualifying in the course work of minimum one semester duration can also apply for provisional registration to Ph. D. programme directly without prosecuting fresh course work if selected in the Admission Test (Personal Interview Only). However, such candidate must have passed at least one paper on Research Methodology and obtained at least 55 marks in each paper separately or B grade in aggregate.

Eligibility Criteria : (b) D.Litt./D.Sc. Course

A candidate seeking admission to D.Sc. / D.Litt must have Ph.D. or an equivalent degree fro'm Assam University or fro'm any other recognized Indian University or a foreign university in the concerned discipline and must be a serving or retired teacher in the University system. He/She must have served as a teacher for a minimum period of 5 years and have at least 5 years of research experience after Ph.D.

Applying procedure.

Admission forms may be downloaded fro'm the website or prospectus 2012 may be collected fro'm Cash Counter of Assam University on all working days fro'm 23 December 2011 to 06 January 2012 (upto 2 p.m.) on payment of Rs. 500-00. A demand draft of Rs. 200.00 drawn in favour of Finance Officer,

Assam University, Silchar payable at SBI, NIT Branch, Silchar or UCO Bank, AUS Branch, must be submitted alongwith the application form as application fee. However, SC/ST candidates need not pay application fee. The last date of submission of duly filled in Admission form to the respective departments is 06 January 2012. Date of written test and personal interview will be held on 10 January 2012 fro'm 11-00 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm respectively. Last date of admission will be 16 January 2012 and the classes will start fro'm 17 January 2012. Reservation of seats for admission in respect of SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates will be made as per GOI rules. Any other information regarding

Eligibility:
Candidates can apply and appear for the TISS National Entrance Test for a maximum of three programmes.

(a) A Bachelor’s Degree of a minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent (under the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 or 10+2+2+1 year bridge course pattern of study or any other pattern fulfilling the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education) from a recognised university, in any discipline. OR

(b) Candidates who will complete all the requirements of their final year Bachelor’s Degree examinations by Saturday, June 9, 2012, are also eligible to apply to all the programmes (except the four programmes offered by the School of Health Systems Studies) provided they have successfully completed their first and second years, if the degree course is of 3 years; and the first, second and third years, if the degree course is of 4 years. Candidates applying for the M.A. Education (Elementary) programme should complete all the requirements by May 11, 2012. In such cases, admission to any of the Master’s Degree Programmes of the Institute will be provisional. If a provisionally admitted student fails in the final year examination, the offer of provisional admission automatically stands cancelled.

(c) Candidates applying for the Master of Public Health Policy, Economics and Finance; and Master of Public Health in Social Epidemiology Programmes should have a (i) Master’s degree in any discipline, or (ii) Bachelor’s degree in medicine, paramedical and other four years programme like pharmacy, veterinary sciences, engineering and others.

(d) Candidates applying for the Master of Health Administration andHospital Administration should have (i) successfully completed their graduate degree in any discipline, or (ii) Bachelor’s degree in medicine, paramedical and other four years programme like pharmacy, veterinary sciences, engineering and others.

(e) Candidates who are in their final year Bachelor’s degree programme are not eligible to apply for admission to any of the Master’s degree programmes conducted by School of Health Systems Studies, i.e., Health Administration, Hospital Administration; Public Health in Social Epidemiology; and Public Health in Health Policy,Economics and Finance.

(f) Candidates applying for the Master in Habitat Policy and Practiceshould have a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Management, Physical Sciences, Geography, Planning, Law, or Social Sciences, with some inclination towards habitat related issues/sectors.

(g) Medical graduates should complete their internship on or before Saturday, June 9, 2012. Otherwise, their candidature/admission stands cancelled.
