Saipum, December 5, 2025: The Hmar Students’ Association (HSA) celebrated its 60th General Assembly (Inkhawmpui Lien) along with the Sikpui Ruoi thanksgiving festival today at the Rev. Dr. HS Thanglung Hall in Saipum. The momentous event was graced by Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma as chief guest, alongside Speaker Pu Lalbiakzama, IPR & PS Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova, MLA Paolienlal Haokip (Saikot), MLA Chinlunthang (Singat) MLA Ngursanglur Sanate (Tipaimukh) attended the celebration.
During his address, Chief Minister Lalduhoma praised the Hmar Students’ Association as one of the oldest student bodies among the Zo ethnic communities, founded in 1939. He highlighted HSA’s enduring contributions to educational upliftment, community progress, cultural preservation, and unity among Hmar youth. He called on the young generation to uphold discipline, hard work, and commitment to their community.
The Chief Minister outlined several major initiatives undertaken by the government, including administrative reforms, the introduction of a transparent MPSC Examination Calendar, expansion of employment opportunities, and continued efforts to enhance higher education infrastructure.
He announced that Mizoram Engineering College, Pukpui, is expected to commence classes in the coming academic year, and reiterated the government’s commitment to establishing Mizoram State University.
Lalduhoma also highlighted the success of the Bana Kaih Scheme, which provides loans to entrepreneurs without requiring profit-sharing or personal guarantors. He further noted that increased support prices for key crops have greatly benefitted farmers this year, helping improve rural incomes.
The Chief Minister urged HSA members to continue spreading awareness on social issues such as substance abuse, moral decline, and community discipline. He emphasised that “the most effective prevention is to avoid wrongdoing from the start.”

Special Appreciation Awards were also conferred upon:

• Pu Lalkhawpui Hrangchal and Pi Laldinpui (Diphu, Assam)
Additional Special Appreciation Awards were presented to:

• Pu Laltuoklien
• Pu Lalmalsawm Sellate (Hmasawnna Thar)
During the programme, Speaker Pu Lalbiakzama, Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova, MLA Paolienlal Haokip, MLA Ngursanglur Sanate, and several other Manipur MLAs delivered short addresses, appreciating the HSA’s legacy and its role in strengthening Zo unity and educational advancement.
Founded in 1939 in Imphal, the Hmar Students’ Association now operates from its General Headquarters in Tuithaphai, with 13 Joint Headquarters, six branches, and numerous active local units across different states.
The 60th General Assembly, which began on December 3, concluded today with renewed calls for unity, cultural pride, and continued service to the Hmar nation.
