Gurugram, November 10, 2025: The Government of Mizoram has been honoured with a Special Award for its outstanding Traffic Management System during the 18th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference 2025, held from 7th to 9th November 2025 in Gurugram, Haryana.
The award was presented by Union Minister Manohar Lal and Union Minister of State Tokhan Sahu from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. Representing the Mizoram Government at the event were Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Secretary, Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation (UD&PA); Pu Jacob Lalawmpuia, Director, UD&PA; and the Town & Country Planning Officer.
Organised annually by the Institute of Urban Transport (India) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the UMI Conference celebrates innovation and excellence in urban mobility and transport management across the country.
For the award selection, the Town & Country Planning Wing, UD&PA Department, made a detailed presentation on 16th October 2025, which included both video and PowerPoint components. The presentation highlighted Mizoram’s exemplary adherence to traffic rules, the disciplined behaviour of road users, the effective coordination under the Coordination Committee on Traffic Management, and Aizawl’s reputation as a “Silent City” known for its orderly traffic system.
The Award Selection Committee, impressed by Mizoram’s achievements, recommended the State for this honour to the Central Ministry.
Expressing gratitude, the Government of Mizoram stated that the award reflects the discipline and cooperation of the people, the dedication of departmental officials, and the outstanding performance of the Mizoram Traffic Police and Transport Department in maintaining a safe and efficient traffic environment.
