Retired IPS Officer C. Lalthanmawia Sworn in as Ombudsman for Mizoram’s Independent Local Body

Aizawl, September 19, 2025: In a solemn ceremony at Raj Bhavan, Aizawl, Mizoram Governor, General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh, PVSM, AVSM, YSM (Retd), administered the oath of office to Pu C. Lalthanmawia, IPS (Retd), appointing him as the Ombudsman (Independent Local Body) for the State of Mizoram. The swearing-in took place at the Durbar Hall in the presence of ministers, legislators, and senior officials.

The ceremony began with Chief Secretary Pu H. Lalengmawia reading out the official notification of appointment, following which the Governor formally administered the oath. The event was attended by UD&PA Minister Pu K. Sapdanga, AH&Vety Minister Pu C. Lalsawivunga, EF&CC Minister Pu Lalthansanga, Deputy Speaker Pu Lalfamkima, Leader of the Opposition Pu Lalchhhandama Ralte, and other dignitaries.

Born on February 12, 1965, Pu C. Lalthanmawia holds BA and LLB degrees and began his career with the Mizoram Police Service in 1989. He was inducted into the Indian Police Service (IPS), AGMUT Cadre (Mizoram Segment), in 2022. Over his distinguished career, he served in several key positions including Director of Fire & Emergency Services, Assistant Inspector General of Police (Police Modernization), and Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) in both Southern and Northern Ranges.

For his exemplary service, he received the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2012 and the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2020. Pu C. Lalthanmawia retired on February 28, 2025, as DIGP, Northern Range, and currently resides with his family in Tuikhuahtlang, Aizawl.

With his appointment as Ombudsman, he will oversee the functioning of Independent Local Bodies in Mizoram, ensuring transparency, accountability, and good governance.
