Mizoram IAS Association Urges Reposting of Maria CT Zuali as Commerce & Industries Director

Aizawl, Sept 10: The Mizoram IAS Association has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Lalduhoma and state ministers, urging the government to reappoint senior IAS officer Maria CT Zuali as Director of Commerce & Industries.

Mizoram IAS Association Urges Reposting of Maria CT Zuali as Commerce & Industries Director

The Association stated that Maria, who served as Director of Commerce & Industries for only one year, was transferred on September 1, 2025, as Special Secretary of Fisheries, and then again on September 4 as Secretary of Horticulture. Her colleagues claimed these repeated transfers were made under pressure from vested interests rather than based on administrative necessity.

Describing the move as “unfortunate and questionable,” the Association said that such frequent transfers of senior officers undermine the stability of departments and discourage committed officers. “We believe this is not a good precedent for the future. Instead of objectively reviewing whether the grounds for transfer are valid, senior officers are being subjected to political pressure,” the memorandum stated.

The IAS body further warned that excessive political interference in postings could weaken governance and morale. They noted that Maria’s professional approach and firmness in handling issues had made her unpopular among certain quarters, but emphasized that such qualities should be valued rather than penalized.

The Association pointed out that the government has well-defined IAS transfer and posting rules, and urged that these be strictly adhered to in the larger public interest. “When officers who work sincerely face undue pressure and frequent transfers, it not only affects their performance but also damages the efficiency of other departments where they may be posted in the future,” it added.

Calling on the government to ensure fairness, the IAS Association said: “For the greater good of the public, we urge the state to review and revoke the transfer order, and restore Maria CT Zuali to her earlier position as Director of Commerce & Industries.”
