Shillong, September 12, 2025: Limison D Sangma, legislator of the National People’s Party (NPP) from Raksamgre constituency in West Garo Hills, has been unanimously elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
The election, scheduled for September 12, turned into a formality after Sangma emerged as the sole candidate following the filing of his nomination on Wednesday. His candidature was formally proposed by cabinet ministers Marcuise N Marak and AT Mondal, reflecting broad support within the Assembly.

Congratulating him on his new role, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed confidence in his ability to discharge the responsibilities with fairness and dedication. “I extend my congratulations to Shri Limison D Sangma on being unanimously elected the Hon’ble Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly. Wish him all the best in carrying out this important responsibility,” he said in a message on X.
As Deputy Speaker, Limison D Sangma will assist in presiding over Assembly proceedings and play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the House.
