Guwahati, Feb 17, 2025: The Assam Cabinet has announced that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the activities of a Pakistani national has uncovered what officials describe as a “larger conspiracy” against India’s sovereignty.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the SIT, set up in February by the state government, had been tasked with investigating the alleged anti-India activities of Pakistani citizen Ali Tauqeer Sheikh and his associates. The team, in the course of its probe, found incriminating details indicating an organized effort to destabilize the nation.
According to the findings, the investigation also revealed the involvement of a British national, who is reportedly married to an Indian Member of Parliament, in the network of Sheikh’s operations. While names have not yet been made public, officials referred to the collaboration as part of the wider nefarious agenda.
The SIT report further sheds light on the role of the Ministry of Interior, Government of Pakistan, in facilitating the visit of a Member of Parliament from Assam to Pakistan. The Cabinet stated that this dimension of the probe underscores the involvement of foreign agencies in influencing Indian political circles.

This development adds a sensitive political and diplomatic layer to the issue, with the ruling government indicating potential international linkages in attempts to compromise India’s security interests.
