The rally comes in response to the abduction of Mr. Zosangkhum Hmar and Elder Lalrimawi Hmar of Tattephai village, who were forcibly taken by armed miscreants around 11:30 p.m. last week. The event has sparked widespread concern over safety, communal harmony, and law and order in the hill district.

Solidarity speeches delivered by community leaders strongly condemned the kidnapping as an “inhuman and unlawful act.”

Today’s mass protest, with rallies in Haflong and other locations including Mahur, Harangajao, and Jinam Valley, was the result of a joint resolution by Hmar Inpui and several civil society organizations. The association warned that such incidents threaten the peace and fabric of the district, and demanded effective measures from the administration.

Authorities have been urged to implement stronger security protocols to prevent such incidents in the future. The rally made clear that justice, peace, and unity remain the collective demand of the peoples of Dima Hasao.
