The disbursement was part of the 20th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme, ceremonially released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a grand event in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The installment, amounting to ₹20,500 crore, benefited over 9.7 crore farmers across India.

In Assam, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora participated in the event virtually from KVK, Kahikuchi, Guwahati, alongside Union Minister of State Pabitra Margherita, MLA Hemanga Thakuria, and other senior officials. The minister described the occasion as a “landmark day for Assam’s farmers” and emphasized the transparency and timeliness of the direct benefit transfer.

“This support reaffirms the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s commitment to ensuring dignity, security, and prosperity for our Annadatas,” said Bora.

Under the PM-KISAN scheme, eligible farmers receive ₹2,000 per installment through direct bank transfers. The scheme plays a crucial role in providing financial assistance ahead of key agricultural seasons.

The virtual event in Assam was attended by several dignitaries, including Dr. Bidyut Chandan Deka, Vice Chancellor of Assam Agricultural University; Dr. P Uday Praveen, Director of Agriculture; Dr. G Kadirvel, Director of ATARI; and senior scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra.

Minister Bora also acknowledged the efforts of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, under whose leadership agriculture has become a state priority. He reiterated the state government’s commitment to enrolling all eligible farmers under the PM-KISAN scheme and transforming the rural economy through such interventions.

“Let us work shoulder to shoulder with our farmers to ensure no eligible farmer is left behind,” Bora concluded.

The PM-KISAN scheme, launched in 2019, continues to be a flagship initiative for farmer welfare, aiming to enhance income support and promote agricultural sustainability across India.
