Serchhip, August 18, 2025: The Biometric Enrollment process for refugees in Serchhip district has resumed, with a total of 229 individuals already registered. From today, the exercise will continue across the district to cover all remaining migrants.
The initiative, aimed at recording the facial features, fingerprints, and other biometric details of migrants from across the border, is being undertaken in Serchhip Hmar Veng VC Area and Serchhip Field Veng VC Area.
According to Nodal Officer Pu Vanthangpuia, SDC from the Serchhip DC Office, many refugees - particularly those who arrived from Myanmar - frequently move for work or live along border areas. This makes it necessary for the government to maintain accurate biometric data for identification and record-keeping.

Three teams have been deployed to carry out the enrollment process across different localities and villages where refugees are settled. The district administration has urged all migrants to participate in the process to ensure their details are properly documented.
The exercise forms part of the state government’s wider effort to streamline data on refugees and strengthen monitoring mechanisms.
