IMPHAL, August 24, 2025: Manipur Police, in a series of coordinated operations with the CRPF and BSF, have seized substantial quantities of narcotics and arrested multiple individuals linked to drug trafficking in Churachandpur and Thoubal districts.
On August 22, 2025, police recovered 236 grams of brown sugar packed in 20 soap cases and ₹3.87 lakh in cash from a house at Songsibok Thingkangphai village under Churachandpur Police Station. The occupant was identified as Mr. Chinsiathang (52) of Tangpijol village, Singngat subdivision.
The following day, on August 23, 2025, a joint operation led by Manipur Police, CRPF, and BSF resulted in the arrest of five individuals from Lilong and Kyamgei areas in connection with drug trafficking. The arrested persons were identified as:
• Md. Mustakim (39) of Lilong Ushoipokpi Tharaorok
• Md. Arif (20) of Lilong Ushoipokpi Tharaorok
• Md. Ajit (32) of Lilong Makha Leikai
• Mrs. Ruhima (26), wife of Ajit, of Lilong Makha Leikai
• Md. Baboy @ Yahiya Khan (35) of Kyamgei Mamang Leikai
During the raids, security forces recovered:
• 2.27 kg WY tablets (methamphetamine) from Mustakim’s residence
• 45 grams WY tablets from Baboy’s residence
• Six mobile phones, account ledgers, and diaries linked to the drug trade
• Two vehicles allegedly used for trafficking (Renault Duster ML05L-0490 and Maruti Alto AS05N-7322)
• 120 empty plastic containers used for packing drugs
Police revealed that Md. Mustakim is a habitual offender, previously arrested by Assam Police in 2022 in Guwahati for transporting 205 soap cases of heroin. He was jailed for two years before being released on bail in January 2025. Similarly, Md. Baboy @ Yahiya Khan had earlier been arrested in 2020 in Guwahati for transporting 7,000 WY tablets, and was released on bail in 2023.
Authorities said the arrests highlight the persistence of organized drug trafficking networks operating in Manipur, often involving repeat offenders. The police confirmed that further investigation is underway to identify wider links and dismantle the networks.
