Over 3,900 People Arrested in Mizoram's Anti-Drug Drive: Excise & Narcotics Dept.

Aizawl, July 13, 2025: In a major crackdown on drug abuse and trafficking, the Excise and Narcotics Department of Mizoram has arrested 3,906 individuals and seized 91 drug traffickers during the ongoing anti-narcotics drive in the current year.

According to the department’s latest report, seizures made since the beginning of the year include approximately 34 kg of heroin, 156 kg of ganja, 945 grams of opium, and a wide range of psychotropic substances and pharmaceuticals. Also confiscated were 3,900 litres of locally brewed liquor, 75 kg of yeast, and large quantities of foreign liquor, soju, and BEDC (Banned Ethyl Drugs and Chemicals).

As part of community-led initiatives, the Central YMA (Young Mizo Association) also made a notable contribution in the month of July alone, apprehending 47 individuals and handing them over to authorities. Substances recovered included No. 4 heroin, Tictac tablets (27), and Alprazolam (5 tablets).

Of those arrested, 21 individuals were sent for counselling while two have been formally charged under narcotics law.

The Excise and Narcotics Department, in close collaboration with Central YMA and other community volunteers, continues to intensify efforts against illegal drug trafficking and abuse. The department reiterated its commitment to strict enforcement and community partnerships to combat the rising drug menace in the state.
