New Delhi, July 11, 2025: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has chargesheeted five individuals in a high-profile case involving the illegal trafficking of arms and ammunition in Mizoram. The accused are believed to have been involved in a conspiracy to smuggle a large cache of prohibited weapons to a militant group in Bangladesh.
The accused have been identified as Lalbiakchunga @ Divid @ David, Lalthawmcheuva @ Thawma, Malsawma @ Malsawma Loncheu, Rualliansanga @ Sanga, and Alok Bikash Chakma. They face charges under multiple legal provisions including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act), 1967, the Arms Act, 1959, and the Foreigners Act, 1946.
The case was originally filed by Mizoram Police on January 15, 2025, and was later taken over by the NIA under case number RC-05/2025/NIA-DLI. Subsequent investigations revealed that the accused were attempting to supply weapons to cadres of the United Peoples Democratic Front (UPDF), a militant organization operating in Chittagong, Bangladesh.

During the operation, NIA recovered a significant arms cache from Saithah village in Mamit district, Mizoram. The seizure included six AK-47 rifles, 13 magazines, and 10,050 rounds of ammunition.
The NIA stated that investigations are still underway and more arrests and revelations are expected as the probe continues.
