New Delhi, July 17: In a grand ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, President Droupadi Murmu presented the Swachh Survekshan 2024 - 25 Awards, where Indore retained its title as India’s cleanest city for yet another year - marking a remarkable winning streak.
Surat secured the second position, followed by Navi Mumbai in third. In the category of cities with a population between 3 and 10 lakhs, Noida emerged as the cleanest, with Chandigarh and Mysuru claiming second and third spots respectively.
President Murmu presented the awards alongside Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal, highlighting the country’s growing commitment to sanitation and urban hygiene.
This 9th edition of the Swachh Survekshan - India’s largest cleanliness survey - was conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), covering over 4,500 urban local bodies. A total of 78 awards were distributed, including under the new “Super Swachh League (SSL)” category.
A standout achievement came from Guwahati, which jumped from rank 402 to 44 nationally, becoming the cleanest capital city in the Northeast - a stunning turnaround from being among the dirtiest last year.
Shillong (Meghalaya) and Lunglei (Mizoram) were recognised as Promising Swachh Shehars from their respective states, reflecting commendable progress in urban cleanliness initiatives.
