Imphal, July 7, 2025: The District Commissioner of Imphal West has issued a formal eviction order directing the removal of all unauthorised structures constructed along roads, highways, and footpaths in the district. The move follows observations by the district administration of widespread unauthorised encroachments - including permanent and temporary structures such as house extensions, shops, sheds, and the accumulation of debris, sand, and construction materials - posing safety hazards to the public and obstructing traffic flow.
Citing Section 3 of the Manipur Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1978, the Deputy Commissioner, Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, has directed all unauthorised encroachers and relevant persons to remove these structures, items, and debris by 3:00 PM on July 11, 2025. The areas covered include National Highways, State Highways, Inter-District Roads, Inter-Village Roads, and all associated footpaths within the Imphal West district.

The administration has warned that failure to comply with the directive will lead to strict penal action, including forced eviction, demolition, and removal by district authorities, the police, and relevant line departments. Encroachers will also be required to bear the full cost of the removal.
