Guwahati, July 6, 2025: In a major step to enhance urban safety, the Assam government has launched the Intelligent City Surveillance System in Guwahati. The initiative includes the installation of 2,000 CCTV cameras across the city, enabling round-the-clock monitoring and faster response to security incidents.
The surveillance system is being equipped with key components such as 20 Public Announcement (PA) systems, 20 Emergency Call Boxes, 10 Variable Message Display units, and 4 Mobile Rapid Deployable Surveillance Solutions, all aimed at strengthening real-time public communication and response.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared updates on the progress made so far:
* 100 CCTV cameras are already live on GS Road.
* Over 90% of the IT, software, and hardware requirements have been procured.
* 690 camera poles have been installed across various parts of the city.
