Tuithaphai, June 8, 2025: The Zou Sangnaupang Pawlpi (ZSP), or the Zou Students’ Association General Headquarters, has strongly condemned what it describes as an unwarranted and baseless search operation carried out by the 37 Assam Rifles, Khuga Battalion, at the residence of its Vice President (External), Mr. P. Nick Lian Zou, in Pàngzawl.

According to a press statement issued on June 8, the incident occurred between 3:30 pm and 4:00 pm. The ZSP expressed shock and outrage over the raid, terming it a violation of personal dignity and an egregious misuse of authority. The student body maintained that the allegations linking their colleague to drug trafficking were entirely unfounded and devoid of credibility.
The statement further noted that an examination of Mr. Zou’s mobile device, reportedly the basis of the suspicion, revealed no incriminating evidence. Specifically, it referred to a call made to an unknown number- an entry that does not exist in his contact list - highlighting the lack of substance in the accusations.
In response to the incident, the ZSP demanded a formal apology from the 37 Assam Rifles for what it called an unjustified intrusion and character defamation. It also called for the disclosure of the informant responsible for what it described as misleading intelligence. The association warned that failure to respond appropriately within 48 hours would lead to the cessation of cooperation with the Assam Rifles in Kuki-Zo dominated areas.
Calling on solidarity from other student organizations and the general public, the ZSP urged for collective condemnation of the incident and support in upholding the rights and dignity of individuals.
The statement was issued by the Department of Information and Publicity, ZSP General Headquarters.
