Nagaland Hosts Trials for World Tug of War Championship in England

Kohima, June 12, 2025: For the first time in Nagaland, selection trials for the Indian team competing in the upcoming World Tug of War Championship kicked off on Wednesday at the 13 Assam Rifles Kohima Battalion ground.

The trials are being conducted over two days from June 12 - 13, and are jointly organized by the Tug of War Federation of India (TWFI) and the Nagaland Tug of War Association (NTWA). The aim is to finalize India’s official squad for the prestigious World Championship, slated to be held in Nottingham, England, from September 4 to 7, 2025.

Bringing the trials to Nagaland marks a major step in decentralizing national sporting events and offering northeastern athletes greater exposure. Officials noted that athletes from various states are participating in the trials, and the best-performing individuals and teams will be shortlisted to represent the country on the world stage.
