Tura, June 19, 2025: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday attended the Education Conclave in Tura, where he engaged with key stakeholders, educators, and officials to deliberate on improving the state’s education system in light of its rapidly growing young population.

CM Sangma Stresses Education Reform at Tura Conclave, Warns of 'Lost Generation' Risk

In his address, the Chief Minister highlighted a stark demographic reality - over 18 lakh youth in Meghalaya are under the age of 20, positioning the state to soon have the youngest population in India.

“That is both a huge opportunity and a serious challenge,” Sangma said. “We can either shape a productive, skilled youth or risk creating a lost generation. The choice is ours, and education is the key.”

The conclave aimed to chart a roadmap for holistic education reform, focusing on access, quality, and employability. The Chief Minister called on educators and policymakers to act swiftly and collaboratively to harness the potential of Meghalaya’s youth through investment in foundational learning, skill development, digital infrastructure, and teacher training.
