Five Arrested Across Manipur in Arms Seizure and Extortion Cases

Imphal, June 17, 2025: Manipur Police and security forces made a series of arrests across the state on June 17 in connection with illegal arms possession, extortion, and the spread of misinformation.

In the first case, Haobam Sitaljit Meetei (55), a resident of Seijang Awang Leikai, was arrested from Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai under Lamphel Police Station. He was found in possession of a 9 mm pistol loaded with magazine, five live rounds, three mobile phones, and a wallet.

In a separate operation under Bishnupur Police Station, two active cadres of the banned outfit KCP (PWG) were arrested from Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou. The accused, Khomdram Joy Singh alias Khagemba (51) and Maibam Memcha Devi (49), were allegedly involved in extortion from the public and local businesses. A .32 pistol with an empty magazine and four mobile phones were recovered from them.

Meanwhile, in Bishnupur District, Rabikanta Konjengbam (34) was arrested for allegedly spreading false information about a firing incident at Phubala via social media on June 15. The police stated that such misinformation could incite public panic and unrest.

In another operation, Yumnam Jenica (22), an active member of KCP (MFL), was arrested from Chingmeirong Mamang Leikai under Lamphel PS. She was allegedly extorting money from the public. The police seized one mobile phone and ₹2,500 in cash from her possession.

Authorities have reiterated their commitment to tackling crime and maintaining peace and order in the state.
