CM Lalduhoma Joins YMA-Led Drug Disposal Programme in Aizawl

Aizawl, June 30, 2025: Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma on Monday attended a Drug Disposal Programme organised by the Central Young Mizo Association (CYMA) and its Central Anti-Drugs Squad (CADS) at Central YMA Hall, Aizawl. The event marked the public destruction of narcotics seized between March 15 and June 2025, underscoring Mizoram’s continued commitment to fighting the state’s drug menace.

In his address, the Chief Minister called for a compassionate and community-based approach to tackling drug abuse, highlighting the need for rehabilitation homes, skill development programmes, and livelihood support for recovering addicts.

"Our fight against drugs must be built on both enforcement and empathy," said Lalduhoma.

"Rehabilitation must be holistic - offering counselling, vocational training, and a pathway to reintegrate into society."

He added that the government is in active discussion with churches and NGOs to establish more quality rehab centres across the state.

Lauding the CYMA and YMA for their tireless work, the Chief Minister noted that YMA remains a pillar of strength in Mizo society, playing a vital role in community well-being and youth development.

Seized & Destroyed Narcotics (Reported by Prof. Malsawmliana, CYMA Secretary):

Heroin (No.4): 861 units

TicTac tablets: 1,498

Methamphetamine: 10 kg

Prescription tablets: 25,383

Ganja: 56 kg

Codeine syrup bottles: 2,805

Illicit liquor: large quantity

Estimated total value: ₹429.27 lakh

Anti-Drug Action (Since March 15, 2025):

Total arrested: 809 individuals

Counselling provided: 440

Sent to rehab: 37

Handed to Excise: 48

Handed to Police: 4

CYMA President Pu Lalhmachhuana, who chaired the programme, clarified that the drugs destroyed were those seized by CADS but not formally transferred to Police or Excise authorities.

After the official programme, Chief Minister Lalduhoma personally took part in the destruction of some of the seized drugs at the CYMA office premises. The remaining substances will be destroyed in phased, safe disposal efforts over the coming days.

The event showcased Mizoram's strong civil-society-led approach to combat the drug crisis and highlighted the need for coordinated action between community groups and government.
