Imphal, June 10, 2025: The influential Meitei youth group Arambai Tenggol has officially called off its statewide bandh that was announced in response to the arrest of one of its leaders on Sunday night. The bandh, which led to widespread protests across Manipur, has now transitioned into a plan for democratic agitation to press for the group's demands.
According to sources, the group has decided to suspend the shutdown from today and will instead adopt democratic means of protest in the days ahead. The initial bandh had triggered major unrest, prompting the state government to impose curfew measures and suspend internet services to curb the escalating tensions.
The arrest of the Arambai Tenggol leader by security forces late Sunday night sparked spontaneous demonstrations in several parts of the state, underscoring the group’s strong grassroots presence and the fragile security situation.
While the bandh has been withdrawn, the situation remains tense, and authorities are closely monitoring the developments. No official comment has yet been issued by the government on the next course of action or the status of the arrested leader.
