WTR GPRN Gives Arambai Tenggol 48 Hours to Issue Unqualified Apology

VIRTHLI

Ukhrul, , May 24, 2025, Virthli (ONP): The Wung Tangkhul Region of the Government of the People's Republic of Nagalim (WTR GPRN) has issued a stern demand for an "unqualified apology" from the Meitei organization Arambai Tenggol. The demand follows the group's hoisting of the 'Salai Taret' flag at Shirui peak during the ongoing Shirui Lily Festival in Ukhrul

In a statement released on May 24, WTR GPRN condemned the act as a "lowbrow and treasonous" intrusion, asserting that the 'Salai Taret' flag holds no cultural, historical, or political significance for the Tangkhul community. The group characterized Arambai Tenggol's actions as those of "war-mongers" provoking the peace-loving Tangkhuls.

"Arambai Tenggol has courted controversy at the wrong time and wrong place with their unfounded narrative," the statement read, emphasizing the inclusive and joyous nature of the Shirui Lily Festival, which brings together people from diverse socio-religious backgrounds.

The WTR GPRN has given Arambai Tenggol a 48-hour ultimatum to issue an unqualified apology for what it terms an "unwarranted intrusion" into an area beyond the group's socio-religious jurisdiction.

The incident has sparked broader concerns about cultural insensitivity and the potential for escalating tensions in the region. The Shirui Lily Festival is a significant cultural event that celebrates the unique heritage of the Tangkhul community and the endemic Shirui lily flower.

As of now, Arambai Tenggol has not publicly responded to the WTR GPRN's demand.
