Since May 5, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and Sub-Division Legal Services Authority (SDLSA) have been facilitating pre-conciliation and settlement discussions, notifying all involved parties. To ensure accessibility, ‘Odhikar Mitras’—community volunteers trained in legal aid—will assist participants, guiding them through the Lok Adalat process and ensuring smooth proceedings.
Justice Amarnath Goud, Executive Chairman of the Tripura State Legal Services Authority, has issued directives to ensure the event’s success, emphasizing its role in delivering swift justice. “This is a golden opportunity for amicable settlements without the burden of legal fees,” said Member-Secretary Jhuma Dutta Chowdhury, encouraging parties to participate actively.
National Lok Adalats, an alternative dispute resolution mechanism, have gained prominence in India as a means to address the growing judicial backlog—estimated at over 4 crore cases nationwide as of 2024. Tripura’s initiative reflects its commitment to accessible justice, offering a cost-effective and efficient platform for dispute resolution while alleviating pressure on the formal court system.
