Security Forces Arrest 8 Militants in Coordinated Crackdown Across Manipur

Imphal, May 22, 2025, Virthli (ONP): In a series of coordinated operations across Manipur on May 21, security forces arrested eight active cadres of various proscribed insurgent groups and recovered a cache of arms, ammunition, and communication devices.

In Imphal East district, two active members of the banned outfit KCP (MFL), identified as Thangjam Diya Singh alias Manimatum (24) and Chingangbam Bidhyananda Singh alias Tomba (26), both residents of Imphal West, were arrested from Kairang Chingya Mamang Leikai under Heingang Police Station. The duo was reportedly negotiating a deal involving the sale of five hand grenades. Security personnel recovered two mobile phones and a two-wheeler from their possession.

In a separate operation at the Tejpur crossing near the MSPDCL Power Sub-station under Kakching Police Station, two active cadres of KYKL (SOREPA) Khumukcham Amuthoi Meitei (45) and Mayanglambam Premchand Meitei (41), both from Kakching district were apprehended. The forces seized two mobile phones during the arrest.

Meanwhile, in Thoubal district, an active cadre of the RPF/PLA outfit, Khundrakpam Robasko Singh alias Khingba (22) of Khangabok Sorok Wangma, was arrested by the security forces under Thoubal Police Station. A mobile phone and a SIM card were recovered from him.

In another high-profile arrest, Nongthombam Robindro Singh alias Robin (52), an active member of PREPAK, was taken into custody from Koirengei Bazar under Heingang Police Station in Imphal East. The operation led to the seizure of a 7.62 mm sniper rifle with a magazine, a 9 mm pistol with a magazine, multiple rounds of ammunition, a four-wheeler, a mobile phone, and a wallet.

Furthermore, two more RPF/PLA members were arrested from Pal Ahanbi Canchipur under Singjamei Police Station in Imphal West district. The arrested individuals were identified as Huyam Chitaranjan Singh alias Thouba alias Kenan (56) of Thangmeiband, Imphal West, and Lairenlakpam Joychandra Meetei alias Abung alias Jullon alias Oken (46) of Chingarel Tejpur, Imphal East. They were involved in extortion activities, and the forces seized a 9 mm carbine machine gun with three magazines and five rounds, twenty-four rounds of AK ammunition, a .303 LMG magazine, various .22 caliber rounds, seven detonators, five mobile phones, two wallets containing Rs 1,060 and Aadhaar cards, and a four-wheeler vehicle.

The Manipur Police confirmed that all individuals are currently in custody and under interrogation. These arrests form part of intensified operations aimed at dismantling militant networks and curbing insurgency-related activities in the region.
