Aizawl, May 8, 2025, Virthli (ONP): A review meeting on the recently conducted Civil Defence Mock Drill was held today under the chairmanship of Mizoram Chief Secretary Pu Khilli Ram Meena, IAS, at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Room. The meeting, held at 11:00 AM, was attended by Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police from across the state via video conferencing.
In his opening remarks, Chief Secretary Meena stressed the critical importance of comprehensive planning and preparedness to mitigate the impact of potential wartime situations or major disasters. He emphasized the urgent need for establishing Advisory Committees at both the state and district levels, ensuring the availability of at least two satellite phones per district, setting up emergency hotlines, and leveraging Akashvani (All India Radio) to disseminate vital information, especially in remote and rural areas.
Highlighting the importance of public awareness, the Chief Secretary noted that understanding the concept and importance of "blackout" protocols during wartime is essential, particularly among students. He called for regular awareness campaigns to educate the public and directed Deputy Commissioners to organize Civil Defence Mock Drills in their respective districts to strengthen readiness.
During the meeting, Aizawl Deputy Commissioner and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Er. Lalhriatpuia, IAS, presented a comprehensive report on the mock drill conducted on May 7. Feedback was also shared by Director General of Police Pu Anil Shukla, IPS, and other officials. The meeting noted that public compliance with the blackout exercise was below expectations and required significant improvement.
Additionally, Deputy Commissioners from various districts provided updates on the status of "Vital Installations" within their jurisdictions, highlighting existing infrastructure and areas requiring further attention.
The review meeting marks a continued effort by the Government of Mizoram to enhance disaster preparedness and civil defence mechanisms across the state.
