Shillong, May 8, 2025, Virthli (ONP): Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. He also inspected the four-lane road construction and the upgradation of the existing two-lane road into a modern four-lane roadway equipped with a dedicated cycling lane and essential urban utilities. The project is expected to improve connectivity and ease traffic congestion in the growing township.

A major highlight of his visit was the New Meghalaya Secretariat project, now under full-scale construction. Terming it an “iconic building,” the Chief Minister said its design has been thoughtfully conceptualized with sustainability at its core. “It will lay the foundation for an active administration,” he remarked.

In addition to administrative and transportation infrastructure, CM Sangma assessed the Wahumkhrah Riverfront Development Project, funded through a state scheme. He emphasized the environmental and civic significance of the project, especially in the run-up to the upcoming National Games. Phase 1 of the project involves river cleanup and basic infrastructure development, while Phase 2 will see the addition of shops, eateries, parking, and hostel accommodations.

Sangma urged citizens to actively participate in river conservation efforts: “We must work together to ensure the cleanliness of rivers like Wahumkhrah. This is a shared responsibility.”

He also visited the Polo Mall, developed under the Smart City Project, where construction has been completed. The process of leasing retail and commercial spaces is currently underway. The mall, which includes entertainment zones, a food court, and shopping spaces, is expected to open in the coming months.

These projects collectively signal a transformative phase for Shillong and underline the government’s commitment to planned urban development, environmental sustainability, and economic growth.
