Imphal, May 14, 2025, Virthli (ONP): A 21-year-old nursing student from Meghalaya was found dead in her hostel room at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal on Tuesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Abiel Sachiana Ch Marak, a fourth-semester B.Sc. Nursing student hailing from Rengram, West Garo Hills district, Meghalaya .
Concerns were raised when Marak failed to attend the routine morning roll call. Fellow students, upon checking her room, found her unresponsive and immediately alerted the RIMS administration. Authorities were promptly notified, and a team from Lamphel Police Station, along with personnel from the Manipur Forensic Sciences Department, arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation .
Preliminary observations suggest the possibility of suicide, as Marak was reportedly found hanging inside her hostel room. However, officials have stated that the exact cause of death will be determined following a post-mortem examination. Her body has been transferred to the RIMS morgue for autopsy.
