Manipur Mourns Fallen Hero; Governor to Lead Wreath-Laying Ceremony

Imphal, May 13, 2025, Virthli (ONP):Constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham of the 7th Battalion, Border Security Force (BSF), made the ultimate sacrifice while defending the nation during a cross-border attack at Kharkhola Border Out Post (BOP) on May 10, 2025. A native of Imphal East district, the young soldier’s bravery has been hailed as a powerful reminder of the unwavering dedication and courage of Manipur’s security personnel.

In honour of his sacrifice, the Hon’ble Governor of Manipur, Shri Ajay Kumar Bhalla, will lead a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal today. The ceremony is expected to witness the presence of senior officials, members of the armed forces, and grieving citizens, all paying their respects to the fallen hero.

Acknowledging the valor and selflessness shown by Constable Chingakham, the Manipur state government has announced an ex gratia amount of ₹10 lakh for the martyr’s family. The financial support will be extended under the Major Laishram Jyotin Singh Ashok Chakra (Posthumous) Scheme, named in memory of another of the state’s gallant sons.
