Aizawl, May 12, 2025,Virthli (ONP): The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the apex student body in Mizoram, has formally appealed to the Governor of Mizoram for immediate intervention in expediting the release of the 4th and final instalment of the Post-Matric (Tribal) Scholarship for the academic year 2023–2024. In a letter dated May 12, 2025, the MZP expressed deep concern over the prolonged delay, which has left thousands of eligible students in financial distress.
According to the letter signed by MZP General Secretary Chinkhanmanga Thomte, approximately 4,027 students from Mizoram are still awaiting the final disbursement of the scholarship, out of a total of 31,685 applicants. While 26,909 students have received the previous instalments, the delay in the final release has caused significant hardship, particularly for those pursuing higher education outside the state in costly technical and professional institutions.
The MZP highlighted the disparity faced by Mizo students compared to their counterparts in other Northeastern states who have already received their full scholarship payments. The organization pointed out that this delay is not only unfair but is also affecting students’ academic performance and financial stability.
Despite previous efforts to resolve the matter through formal channels, the student body reported no meaningful progress. In light of this, they have requested the Governor to urge the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, to take swift action and release the pending funds under the Post-Matric Scholarship scheme.
The MZP has emphasized the urgency of the situation and remains hopeful that the Governor’s timely intervention will provide much-needed relief to affected students.
