Tuiṭhaphai, May 6, 2025, Virthli (ONP): The Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) has issued a strong condemnation of the recently announced “Chalo Manipur” campaign initiated by the Rashtrahit Sarvopari Sangathan (RSS) and its affiliated organisations. The campaign, which calls for a mass mobilization into Kuki-inhabited hill areas under the banner of “rehabilitating displaced Meiteis,” has sparked concern among tribal communities in the region.

In a press statement released on Tuesday, KIM described the campaign as “provocative and dangerous,” alleging that it is a pretext for demographic intrusion into tribal territories. According to the organisation, the planned march risks reigniting ethnic violence and deepening existing communal tensions in Manipur.

“The so-called ‘Chalo Manipur’ campaign is a veiled attempt to forcibly push Meiteis into Kuki territories,” KIM stated. “It is a deliberate provocation that threatens to destabilize the region and incite fresh conflict.”

KIM further accused the state government, under Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, of partisan governance and inaction in the face of past violence against tribal groups. The organisation claimed that the state administration has consistently failed to protect minority communities, and that the campaign aligns with what it described as a broader agenda of displacement.

The proposed march was flagged off in New Delhi by a coalition of right-wing groups. KIM warned that any attempt to move large groups of people into Kuki areas would not be viewed as a humanitarian initiative but as an act of aggression.

The tribal body called on the Government of India and national security agencies to prevent the march from proceeding. It also urged national media and international human rights observers to closely monitor the situation and hold the organisers accountable for any potential escalation.

“If the ‘Chalo Manipur’ campaign goes forward, KIM will hold both the central and Manipur state governments responsible for any violence or destruction that may follow,” the statement said. “The hills are not a battleground for political experiments. This campaign must be stopped.”

The statement was issued by Janghaolun Haokip, Secretary of Information & Publicity, Kuki Inpi Manipur.
