Imphal, May 31, 2025, Virthli (ONP): Amid ongoing political uncertainty in Manipur, a group of at least 11 BJP legislators convened a closed-door meeting at the official residence of former minister Thongam Biswajit Singh in Sanjenthong, Imphal, on Friday evening.

While the exact agenda of the meeting remains undisclosed, it comes just two days after BJP MLA Thokchom Radheshyam publicly stated that 44 MLAs have agreed to form a "popular government" in the state. He said the legislators had conveyed their readiness to the Governor and were exploring solutions to the state's issues.

“The MLAs are united and ready to form a government as per the wishes of the people,” Radheshyam had told the press on Wednesday, notably excluding the ten Kuki-Zo MLAs and five Congress legislators from the proposed alliance.

Reports suggest that as many as 25 BJP MLAs have recently expressed intent to push forward the formation of a new government. The internal push reflects growing dissatisfaction over the current administration's perceived inaction in addressing the ethnic violence and governance vacuum that has persisted for over a year.

Sources indicate that more such meetings may follow in the coming days, as pressure mounts within the BJP ranks for political restructuring and reassertion of control in the troubled state.
