Guwahati, May 12, 2025,Virthli (ONP): Assam continues to establish itself as a premier destination for ecotourism in India, with over 4 lakh tourists visiting the state's national parks in 2023-24, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.
In a tweet celebrating the state's natural heritage and growing tourism sector, the Chief Minister described Assam as a “tourist’s delight,” rich in biodiversity and cultural hospitality. “A trip to Assam is a trip of self-discovery and of falling in love with nature,” Sarma wrote.
Home to iconic reserves such as Kaziranga National Park, Manas National Park, and Dibru-Saikhowa, Assam’s protected areas draw nature enthusiasts, wildlife photographers, and adventure travelers from across India and abroad. The Chief Minister’s remarks underscore the significant footfall these parks have received, signaling a rebound in the sector following pandemic-related disruptions.
Tourism authorities have attributed the rise in numbers to improved connectivity, government-led infrastructure development, and focused promotion under the “Awesome Assam” campaign. Initiatives aimed at sustainable tourism and community engagement have also played a vital role in enhancing visitor experience and preserving the ecological integrity of these reserves.
With its lush forests, rich wildlife, and vibrant cultural landscape, Assam is increasingly being seen as a leading ecotourism hub in the Northeast and a model for nature-based travel in India.
The state government is expected to unveil more initiatives in the coming months to further strengthen Assam’s position on the global tourism map.
