Mizoram MP Meets Chin Refugee Leaders to Discuss Ongoing Challenges

New Delhi, April 26, 2025, Virthli (ONP): Today, Lok Sabha MP Richard Vanlalhmangaiha met with leaders from twelve different Chin refugee groups at his residence in New Delhi to discuss the ongoing situation of refugees from Myanmar living in Mizoram.

During the meeting, MP Vanlalhmangaiha expressed his deep concern over the hardships and constant challenges faced by the Chin refugees due to the Indian government’s lack of formal recognition. He emphasized the need for continued support and advocacy for their cause, pledging to assist in addressing their grievances and ensuring they receive necessary aid.

Leaders of the Chin Refugee Community highlighted the repeated hardships and uncertainties they endure, stating that despite their long-standing presence and contributions, many refugees still lack legal recognition. They also conveyed to the MP their efforts to advocate for broader awareness and more permanent solutions to their plight.

The refugees briefed the MP on various aspects of their struggles across India. In response, MP Vanlalhmangaiha assured them of his commitment to studying their concerns carefully and taking appropriate action. It was also noted during the meeting that approximately 7,000 Chin refugees are currently residing within the Delhi metropolitan area.
