Aizawl, July 17, 2018: The Aizawl joint headquarters of the Hmar Students' Association has lodged criminal complaint against three persons for allegedly spreading rumours and derogatory remarks against their community.

A statement, issued by the association, on Monday said the complaint were lodged at Bawngkawn police station here on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday against three social media users, Maneiha Bochung, Mahmuna Chalthleng and R.L. Chhanhima, for disseminating derogatory and abusive remarks against the Hmar community in social media.

The statement, signed by the association's general secretary P.K. Gangte, alleged that the trio had spread baseless allegations by saying that some Hmar girls, camping at Thuampui here and working as domestic maids, had committed theft and duped people.

The association sought arrest of and punishment for the culprits.
