NCHAC chairman Ngamrothang Hmar quits’

HAFLONG, JUN 6 (AGENCIES) : The special session of NC Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) held  at at Session Hall of the council in Haflong in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Monday was adjourned after the council chairman Ngamrothang Hmar resigned from the post.

Hmar has sent his resignation letter to Assam Governor PB Acharya through NCHAC secretary for which no business was conducted in the house on Monday. The special session was convened to move a no-confidence motion against present chief executive member (CEM) of the council Debojit Thaosen after he lost majority in the house following three of his member of autonomous council (MACs) joined the BJP.


Five of the ruling Congress MACs joined the BJP following which the strength of the BJP has gone up to 19 in the house while the strength of the Congress party has gone down to 9. The NC Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) has total 30 MACs out of  which 28 are elected members and 2 are nominated members.

BJP  MACs led by former CEM Niranjan Hojai claimed majority in the house and were expected to move no-confidence motion against CEM Thaosen on Monday.
The next court of action will be decided by Governor Acharya.
