Hmar leaders meet Assam Chief over Hmar political issue

Guwahati, June 11, 2016 (Virthli): A delegation of Hmar leaders on Friday met Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the latter's bungalow in Guwahati over Hmar political issues and asked him to take concrete efforts at solving the Hmar political imbroglio in Assam that has been pending since 2012.

The Hmar delegation led by its leader Dr. John Pulamte also asked the Chief Minister to immediately meet the Hmar political demands in Assam.


It may be mentioned that, the Hmar People's Convention (HPC-D), Assam region has laid down arms on January 24, 2012 with the knowledge of both the Government of India and Assam Government and held several tripartite talks with them. The Hmar militant group demands the creation of autonomous district by clustering the hmar inhabited areas in Assam.

The delegation appealed the chief minister to immediately redress the Hmar political problem in Assam. Dr. John Pulamte was accompanied by other leaders including David Buhril, Lalthlamuana Hmar, David L. Hmar, and Elvis L. Hmar.
