Speaking on the occasion of MPCC political session here on Friday, the Chief Minister said he was much confused about whether the church was opposed to liquor or against the State Government. “I was thinking a lot about the Presbyterian church idiosyncracy against liquor. I was confused if the church has reacted against liquor or the Congress Government as the church had not reportedly disciplined any of its members who sold liquor during the total prohibition period”, he said.
According to Lal Thanhawla, notwithstanding the fact that no country around the world could effectively impose total prohibition, Mizoram had imposed the same at the behest of the church. Despite the emphasis on concerted effort to combat liquor at the time of announcement of the total prohibition act, we failed to form a united effort in prohibiting liquor, Hawla added.
